Artificial intelligence is much more than a technology. It's a contested territory where various dimensions of life are at stake, such as knowledge production, work, education, communication, natural resources, and democracy. The algorithms that organize what we see, what we read, and how we connect are, for the most part, designed far removed from our realities. The same is true of the data used to train them and the rules that govern them.

Algorithmic Territories was born to formulate questions from our perspective. Who produces artificial intelligence and for what purpose? What knowledge, languages, and experiences are left out? What are its social and environmental costs, and who pays them? How can we appropriate it from a critical, situated perspective committed to social justice?

This observatory brings together the output of CLACSO and its network of member centers on artificial intelligence: articles, interviews, conferences, courses, books, podcasts, and audiovisual materials. It is organized by format for easy browsing, consultation, and sharing.

It's a dynamic space that will continue to expand with new voices, research, and discussions. We invite researchers, teachers, students, journalists, and anyone interested in these topics to explore it, use it, and join the conversation.

Because thinking about artificial intelligence from the Global South is not just one option among others: it is a condition for the technological future to also be ours.
