Artificial intelligence, technological dependence, and cognitive appropriation

The CLACSO Working Group on “Imperialism, Neocolonialism, and Policies of Intervention” proposed in this webinar a reflection on artificial intelligence (AI) as one of the most important fields of geopolitical dispute in the 21st century. Using concepts such as technological dependence and cognitive appropriation, they analyzed how AI systems controlled by large corporations reconfigure the dynamics of accumulation and power relations, deepen the asymmetries between the Global North and South, and transform the processes of knowledge production, circulation, and control. The meeting aimed to provide critical tools for understanding these challenges from a Latin American perspective.
