The Right to Education: Perspectives from the Global South (REGS) is a network dedicated to strengthening the right to education from the perspectives of the Global South. Founded through cooperative relationships between the Latin American Council of Social Sciences (CLACSO), Arab Council of Social Sciences (ACSS) y Council for the Development of Social Science Research in Africa (CODESRIA)Since 2021, the network has been promoting collaborative and coordinated work between Latin America and the Caribbean, the Arab world and Africa.

Our purpose is to create spaces for dialogue, promote training opportunities tailored to the realities of each region, and produce documents and publications in various formats and languages. We are targeting researchers, teachers, students, and activists committed to defending the right to education.

REGS is currently developing the initiative “Social and Institutional Learning in Academic Freedom: Workshops and Publications Organized through South-South Cooperation,” which seeks to analyze, exchange, and promote learning related to the defense and promotion of academic freedom in Africa, Latin America, and the Arab world. Through workshops, research grants, and multilingual publications, we strengthen interregional dialogue and the collective production of knowledge.

Through these South-South cooperation spaces, we contribute to a situated and collaborative intellectual debate on academic freedom as a fundamental dimension of the right to education, from and for the Global South.
