Open access to knowledge

The work of the Area is geared towards providing access to knowledge in the field of Social Sciences and the dissemination of the academic production of the researchers who are part of the CLACSO network.

This area develops and adapts various platforms, tools, and dissemination formats, consolidating open access mechanisms for research results and debates in the field of Social Sciences. It also serves as a space for cooperation with CLACSO member centers for joint production and/or support in the transition to new open access research dissemination formats in virtual environments.


Main objectives

  • Promote new alternatives for disseminating knowledge produced in the field of Social Sciences and for the production and circulation of publications, expanding them.
  • To contribute to professional development and the exchange of experiences within the CLACSO network regarding best practices in academic communications in digital environments.
  • Promote debate on access to knowledge produced by social researchers and encourage progress in international, national and institutional policy instruments that recognize knowledge as a public good and guarantee access to it.
  • To build and maintain a bibliographic resource of reference in the field of Latin American social sciences that allows for the understanding and dialogue of different epistemological traditions. In this sense, the development of the Virtual Libraries Network and Latin American Social Sciences Bookstore.
  • To provide CLACSO Member Centers, the scientific and academic community, and the general public, Free access to an updated digital repository of Social Sciences from Latin America and the Caribbean, and audiovisual productions in CLACSO TV.
