 Day for South-South Cooperation 2025

The United Nations General Assembly determined that, starting in 2012, the United Nations Day for South-South Cooperation It is celebrated on September 12, to commemorate the date in 1978 when the United Nations Conference on Technical Cooperation among Developing Countries approved the Buenos Aires Plan of Action to promote activities that contribute to building exchange in the South, between Africa, Asia, Latin America, the Caribbean and the Middle East to foster their self-sufficiency and achieve common goals.

Forum: The New Dynamics of South-South Relations and the Challenges of Latin American Integration


CLACSO South-South Programme

An inter-regional academic platform for the exchange and discussion of contemporary social issues of common interest in Africa, Latin America, Asia, and the Middle East. It aims to deepen South-South academic cooperation and consolidate a network comprised of a new generation of researchers from the Global South, adopting a critical and comparative perspective.

Lines of action:
-Organization of schools, workshops, scholarships, as well as seminars, forums and international conferences relevant to South-South academic cooperation
-Creation of the South-South University, a tricontinental project that is emerging as a platform for exchange and academic training with the perspective of the Global South.
-Production of academic knowledge relevant to public policies.
-Deepen the links of cooperation and exchange with the Council for the Development of Social Science Research in Africa (CODESRIA), the Arab Council of Social Sciences (ACSS), the International Development Economics Associates (IDEAs) network, UNESCO's MOST Programme, the Future Earth Research Platform (ICSS), among many other institutions.
