Call for Proposals | Inequality of Opportunity in Higher Education

Until the 20 of February of 2026

CLACSO, through the Working Group on Comparative Social Inequalities: Social Class, Gender and Ethnicity, and within the framework of the project INCASI2 (International Network for Comparative Analysis of Social Inequalities), invites researchers to submit chapters for the book “Inequality of Opportunity in Higher Education”.

Educational and labor inequalities continue to be a defining feature of contemporary societies, both in Latin America and Europe. Despite the expansion and massification of higher education, profound gaps persist in access, retention, graduation, and occupational returns based on socioeconomic background, gender, race/ethnicity, and immigration status. In this context, this call for papers seeks contributions that combine empirical evidence and theoretical reflection on the relationship between education and work, incorporating comparative, intersectional, and longitudinal approaches.

Contributions will be accepted that address, among other topics: stratification of educational opportunities; inequalities in performance and academic trajectories; direct and indirect costs of higher education; labor returns and labor market segmentation; comparative analyses; effects of public inclusion policies; and innovative methodological approaches in the study of the education-work link.
