No to the coup in Bolivia

The Latin American Council of Social Sciences (CLACSO) expresses its concern regarding the violation of rights and the disrespect shown to democratic principles and the decisions of the majority of the Bolivian people. It also rejects the use of violence, the resurgence of classist and racial hatred, and the use of confrontational strategies that damage democratic institutions and social peace.

The reactionary forces that refuse to recognize the election results are inciting violence against Indigenous women, peasants, and sitting authorities in order to illegitimately seize power. They haven't even waited for the conclusions of the international audit being conducted as a demonstration of the current government's commitment to dispelling any doubts about the election results.

In light of this situation, the CLACSO Steering Committee calls upon the various groups and individuals to cease violent actions and contribute to the search for alternative dialogues that respect the country's institutions, safeguard the gains achieved by its people, defend democracy, and urgently halt the attempted coup. Furthermore, it expresses its willingness to contribute to a peaceful and consensual solution among the conflicting parties and to a dialogue free from external interference, respecting the decision agreed upon within CELAC to maintain Latin America and the Caribbean as a Zone of Peace.
