Bolivia votes and fights

Bolivia remains under tension following the October 20 elections that saw Evo Morales declared the winner in the first round, a result not recognized by the opposition. Meanwhile, the Organization of American States (OAS) is conducting an audit of the vote count, with its report due on November 11, along with that of the observer mission. The team of technical specialists working on the audit had access to the database of the Preliminary Electoral Results Transmission System and also collected material from the Supreme Electoral Tribunal. The OAS delegation has called on opposition political parties to present conclusive evidence of the alleged fraud, but so far, no such evidence has been presented.

Meanwhile, acts of violence instigated by opposition groups are on the rise, such as the attacks suffered by the mayor of Vinto, in the central region of Cochabamba. Patricia Arce, a member of the governing Movement for Socialism (MAS), was assaulted by a mob of anti-government protesters, who dragged her barefoot through the streets, smeared her with red paint, and cut her hair.
