-Forum: 50 years after the coup in Argentina

An event dedicated to memory, recognition, and the defense of democracy and human rights was held at the CLACSO headquarters, which on Tuesday, March 31, recognized countries or peoples that received exiles during the Argentine dictatorship, such as the ambassadors of France. Romain Nadal and from Germany Dieter Lamlé, to the First Secretary of the Embassy of Brazil Paula Alexim and to the Cultural Attaché of Mexico Emilio Payán Stupignan.

Historical figures in the struggle for human rights, memory and justice were honored, including the Nobel Peace Prize laureate. Adolfo PÃ © rez Esquivel and Argentine Forensic Anthropology Team (EAAF) represented by Mariana Segura, Mariella Fumagalli y Lucas Guagnini.

It premiered on theBerta Cáceres Award, Marielle Franco – Women Fighters of Our America"with recognition to Estela Barnes de Carlotto, President of the Grandmothers of Plaza de Mayo.

The workshop “Images in Dispute: Photography, Memory and Power 50 Years After the Coup in Argentina” was held, led by Cora Gamarnik and the traveling photographic exhibition “Images of Memory” entitled “50 Years After the Coup in Argentina – From the Assault on Power to Democratic Recovery” was inaugurated, dedicated to the processes of memory, resistance and democratic reconstruction.

Interviews with Pablo Vommaro, Executive Director of CLACSO; Adolfo PÃ © rez Esquivel of the Peace and Justice Service (SERPAJ) and Nobel Peace Prize laureate, and Mariana Segura, director for South America of the Argentine Forensic Anthropology Team (EAAF).

The program for Wednesday, April 1st, covers two of the main themes of the Platforms for Social Dialogue which CLACSO is promoting for the coming years: “Democracies in dispute: horizons, resistances and the construction of alternatives from the public and the common” and “Just transitions and sovereignties in dispute: towards sustainable and inclusive futures from the Global South”.
