Forum Memory and Human Rights is part of the Platform for Social Dialogue, Democracy, Human Rights and Peace, which CLACSO is promoting for the coming years. 

The objective of this proposal is to achieve the production of evidence-based, critical, situated knowledge with a high impact on policy definition, public opinion formation and the positive transformation of the living conditions of the most vulnerable populations.

The Memory and Human Rights Forum seeks to bring together members of Latin American and Caribbean academia, movements, organizations and social collectives that are already decision-makers in public policy regarding the reflection and understanding of the proposals, capabilities, potential and pending agendas  Fifty years after the coup in Chile.

The Forum includes various activities:
IV International Postgraduate School in Education: Education, memories and resistance
First International Seminar: Lefts, Memories and Utopias
International seminar. Latin American social sciences on the 50th anniversary of the coup 
– And a series of documentaries, cultural activities, a book fair, reflection workshops and field visits, among others.

The Latin American Council of Social Sciences (CLACSO), the CLACSO Working Group “Popular Education and Critical Pedagogies”; the University of Playa Ancha (UPLA) with the “Latin American Pedagogies Research Group” and the “Observatory of Social Participation and Territory”; the International University of Andalusia (UNIA) and the La Rábida Group of Ibero-American Universities, invited master's and doctoral students, public policy officials and representatives of civil society committed to education at different levels of the educational system and beyond, to apply to participate in the IV CLACSO International Postgraduate School in Education “Education, Memory and Resistance. Fifty Years After the Coup in Chile”, an activity that is part of the commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the coup and the overthrow of the Popular Unity Government, headed by President Salvador Allende Gossens. The School will take place in Valparaíso, Chile, from September 04th to 09th, 2023.

“Keep in mind,” Salvador Allende told us on September 11, 1973, “much sooner rather than later the great avenues will open again for free men [and women] to walk and build a better society.” The convening organizations, taking up the historical momentum of Allende’s last words and his transformative political legacy, extend an invitation to participate in the International Seminar “Leftists, Memory and Utopia: 50 Years After the Coup in Chile,” with the aim of reflecting, from a Latin American critical perspective, on the construction of a “better society.”

Taking as its starting point the example and experience of the thousand days of the Popular Unity government (1970-1973), this International Seminar invites participants to debate the potential of historical memory as a source for reimagining strategic thought, to assess the challenges facing the left in times of Latin American upheaval, and to imagine horizons that transcend capitalist barbarity. Through the exercise of utopian memory, we propose to explore the multifaceted relevance of emancipatory projects in Latin America and the Caribbean.

We will have the participation of Brazilian sociologist Michael Löwy, former Vice President of Bolivia Álvaro García Linera, Chilean filmmaker and writer Carmen Castillo, Argentine economist Claudio Katz, CLACSO Executive Director and Uruguayan sociologist Karina Batthyány, Cuban philosopher Félix Valdés, Cuban philosopher Yohanka León, Honduran environmental activist Berta Zúñiga Cáceres, Peruvian sociologist Guillermo Rochabrún, Mexican sociologist Elvira Choncheiro and Argentine intellectual Atilio Boron, among other prominent figures of Latin American and Caribbean critical thought.
