"The Fortaleza Forum's central focus is the defense of the territory and of life."
From May 17 to 19, the “Social Dialogue for Equality and Human Rights,” convened by CLACSO together with the Vice Ministry for Social Dialogue, Equality and Human Rights of Colombia, took place in Bogotá. Within this framework, Lia Pinheiro Barbosa, member of the CLACSO Steering Committee for the Bolivia, Brazil and Peru Region, presented the Forum “Social Movements and Territories for Life"meeting in Fortaleza, Brazil, on June 29 and 30."
He explained that the objective of the meeting is to achieve the production of evidence-based, critical, situated knowledge with a high impact on policy definition, public opinion formation and the positive transformation of the living conditions of the most vulnerable populations.
The Forum seeks to foster dialogue among members of Latin American and Caribbean academia, social movements, organizations, and collectives already involved in public policy decisions, focusing on reflecting upon and understanding the proposals, capacities, potential, pending agendas, and conflicts of social movements and activism in Latin America and the Caribbean. It aims to construct a global and interconnected perspective on current activism, centered on the analysis of environmental struggles, migrant struggles, Indigenous struggles, and struggles in urban territories. The focus will be on the present state of these struggles, while also considering their historical trajectories and collective memory.
