International Africa Day

Every May 25th, the “International Africa DayThis date commemorates the creation of the Organization of African Unity in 1963. This day represents an opportunity to recognize the historical struggles of African peoples for liberation, self-determination and social justice, as well as their fundamental contribution to building a multipolar and more equal world.
From a South-South perspective, Latin America, the Caribbean, and Africa share trajectories marked by colonialism, structural racism, global inequalities, and popular resistance. They also share experiences of cooperation, critical thinking, cultural production, and the construction of political alternatives oriented toward the sovereignty of peoples.
In the current international context, strengthening ties between Africa and Latin America and the Caribbean is essential for promoting shared agendas in defense of democracy, peace, human rights, climate justice, and regional integration. Academic, social, and political collaborations between the two regions provide a key space for fostering situated knowledge, intercultural dialogue, and emancipatory visions.
On this Africa Day, from CLACSO We reaffirm the importance of deepening South-South relations as a collective commitment to a fairer, more supportive and pluralistic international order.
