Elected Women: Voices of Resistance Against Political Violence in Antioquia
In Antioquia, the price many women leaders pay for speaking out is extremely high: threats, exclusion, erasure, digital violence, stigmatization, and imposed silences as self-protection mechanisms. It's not just about preventing their participation. It's about delegitimizing their agendas, erasing their leadership, and isolating them from positions of power.
In the new episode of “A brasier quita'o” we talk about the structural violence faced by women in the Political Movement of Elected Women during and after the 2023 electoral process. We do so based on research in Argentina and Brazil carried out by members of the Institute of Latin American Studies (FSoc-UBA) and the Laboratório de Estudos de Gênero (UFSC), funded by CLACSO.
Because political violence is not a flaw in the system: it is a strategy of patriarchal power to maintain itself. And in the face of this, the women of Electas respond with organization, sisterhood, and memory. They transform fear into collective strength and continue to weave new ways of doing politics, from the ground up and with their bodies in resistance.
