CLACSO had the privilege of participating in the tribute to Indigenous Peoples held in Sibundoy, Nariño Department, Colombia. We call for the active participation of the diverse Indigenous communities and peoples of Colombia, in all their diversity, for our #CLACSO2025 Conference, which will be held in June in Bogotá. Within the framework of this tribute, which featured a captivating musical component showcasing the diversity and richness of Indigenous representation, we extended an invitation to Colombian Indigenous communities to embrace this conference.
Our participation in the tribute is a chapter within our Platforms for Social Dialogue (PDS), in this case focused on the movements associated with the indigenous peoples of Colombia with representation of decision-makers in Colombia, together with different ministries and the Member Centers of CLACSO Colombia with the figure of Jaime Zuluaga as representative.
CLACSO proposes that the upcoming #CLACSO2025 conference be a space for collaboration between academia, public policy, social movements, and organizations to analyze what has happened, where we have come from, and the current situation in our Latin American and Caribbean region, but above all, how to address the challenges that exist and will arise from 2025 onward in our region. In other words, a space for collective construction, like all the conferences and meetings we hold at CLACSO.
The Vice Minister of the Interior, Lilia Solano, organized the tribute to the indigenous peoples of Colombia. The day before, we met in a working session for #CLACSO2025 with representatives from various ministries to discuss the organization of our event and the ministries' participation.
At this meeting, the topics to be addressed during our conference were raised as key areas of work that are of interest to representatives of Colombian public policy and are also in conjunction with our Platforms for Social Dialogue, such as migration, environment, inequality, poverty, social movements, issues related to gender, violence, democracy, the processes of political instability that our region is going through, memory, human rights, social justice, among others.
#CLACSO2025 opens a scenario for collaborative development. With just a year and a half to go before the next Conference, the CLACSO Member Centers in Colombia play a central role, as they form one of the strongest networks within our institution. Colombia currently has around 100 Member Centers and networks associated with CLACSO.
On the other hand, after our closing toast, we held our first meeting, which, due to geographical reasons, was only attended by the Member Centers from Argentina. At CLACSO, we had an intense 2023 in terms of activities, the implementation of our Platforms for Social Dialogue (PDS), and meetings throughout Latin America focused on the topics that bring us together on these platforms.
Furthermore, current events are also marked by the situation in Argentina, with a change of government that is generating much uncertainty, insecurity, and questions about the coming years. Today, we are (re)considering the challenges facing the Latin American context and mentioning that CLACSO will be a place to organize activities in light of this very particular moment that Argentina is experiencing. I would say it is a space to organize resistance, which will be so necessary in the coming months and years in this country. The closing toast also provided an opportunity to share the joy of the countless activities we have carried out together.
And finally, for 2024 we already have a very busy schedule of activities planned, beginning in February in the Caribbean, specifically in Cuba. There we will have various activities related to the Platforms for Social Dialogue (PDS), important meetings focused on the University 2024 initiative, highlighting the importance of education and public higher education in our region. Today, we celebrate the activities carried out in 2023, which have marked a very intense, very active, and very important year for our Latin American Council of Social Sciences.
