Knowledge, alternatives and challenges in the face of inequalities and the climate crisis in Central America
From August 4 to 7, at the University City of the National Autonomous University of Honduras, in Tegucigalpa, CLACSO organized the Forum "Knowledge, alternatives and challenges in the face of inequalities and the climate crisis in Central America", with various activities aimed at enriching the regional debate, with the participation of various Member Centers, Working Groups and training spaces of CLACSO.
The meeting took place within the framework of XIX Central American Congress of Sociology (ACAS 2025) “Sociology in Central America facing Social Inequalities, Climate Change and Territorial Disputes”, which had broad participation from Latin American Council of Social Sciences This initiative is supported by the Platforms for Social Dialogue project, which promotes the link between research, social movements, and public policy. It was organized by the Department of Sociology of the Faculty of Social Sciences at the National Autonomous University of Honduras (UNAH) and the Central American Sociological Association (ACAS).
The meeting concluded with the Tegucigalpa Declaration.
The Honduran Press Secretariat highlighted that "The dissemination of the 2025–2035 Public Policy for Youth marks a milestone in the State's commitment to the young people of Honduras. This forum brought together representatives from the State, civil society, and international cooperation to reflect, discuss, and build commitments around a policy that responds to the realities, rights, and aspirations of more than 32% of the population: young people. From regional experiences to the national context, the need for a dynamic public policy, built from the voices and perspectives of young people, was reaffirmed."
And added that "For the first time, a youth consultation methodology was applied, gathering voices from the territories. Through the participation of the Secretary of the National Youth Institute, Zulmit Rivera, the executive director of the Latin American Council of Social Sciences (CLACSO), Pablo Vommaro, and the Vice President of the National Congress of Honduras, Hugo Noé Pino"Dialogues and commitments were sown that will be key to making what was discussed a living and transformative instrument in the lives of Honduran youth."
In turn, Pablo Vommaro pointed out that "For the first time, this process was built using a youth consultation methodology, gathering voices from the territories. A key tool to ensure that this public policy is dynamic, inclusive, and transformative." And he stressed: "At CLACSO, we reaffirm our commitment to a region that listens to, respects, and empowers young voices. Young people are not the future: they are the present that is already transforming our societies."
ACAS 2025 is a key forum for discussing the challenges facing Central America and Latin America from a critical perspective committed to social justice. In a context of growing inequalities, climate crisis, and territorial conflicts, the event will facilitate the exchange of knowledge and strategies. Aimed at professors, students, researchers, professionals, social leaders, and public policy officials interested in the proposed topics, the event seeks to reflect on emerging issues of concern to the international academic community, particularly in Central America, which faces new challenges such as climate change and persistent inequalities. These challenges pose a threat to governance in the region's countries and directly impact the living conditions of its populations.

CLACSO at the ACAS 2025 Congress
International Postgraduate School on Inequalities, Climate Change and Territorial Disputes
It is an intensive, in-person, postgraduate-level training program with a comparative and regional perspective. This training initiative is expected to contribute to strengthening dialogue among representatives of academia, social movements, and public policymakers regarding the complex relationship between the environment and society.
The School's activities are free of charge (travel, lodging, and meals are not covered). To pass the International Postgraduate School on Inequalities, Climate Change, and Territorial Disputes, you must complete all three workshops in the academic program. Digital certificates of participation will be issued (CLACSO).
