CLACSO at the 5th ISA Forum 2025
CLACSO's participation in the 5th Forum of the International Sociological Association
Rabat, Morocco. July 6-11, 2025.
CLACSO was invited and participated in the 5th ISA Forum, held in Rabat, Morocco, between July 6 and 11, 2025.
Within the framework of the diverse members of the network who participated in different instances of the Forum of the International Sociological AssociationThere were two panels in which CLACSO was present in an institutional capacity. Representation in these spaces was assumed by Leticia Muñiz Terra, a researcher at CIMeCS-IdIHCS – CONICET-UNLP, linked to various initiatives of CLACSO, among them, the FOLEC.

One of the panels had as its central theme Regional associations and their proposals for global sociology and sparked a powerful discussion about the challenges facing the social sciences and sociology in different regions. CLACSO emphasized the current challenges of the
Latin American and Caribbean social sciences that are linked to the promotion of social equality, the struggle to guarantee more and more human and environmental rights, the defense of free and quality public education, decolonization, intersectionality, studies that contribute to counteracting multidimensional social inequalities, feminism; and the creation of critical perspectives from the global south in a world with constant geopolitical changes to promote peace in a context in which wars are re-emerging.
In the other panel in which CLACSO participated, the discussion focused on the role of Regional associations and their support for academic freedom in a regressive worldThe topics addressed were linked to the state of academic freedom in different regions, the growing threats facing the social sciences and humanities, and the initiatives developed to defend academic freedom. CLACSO's participation in this panel focused on defending academic freedom as an inalienable human right, addressed in a comprehensive and multidimensional manner. This included disseminating information about the various threats faced by academics in the region, the erosion of university autonomy, the growing denial of scientific findings, the persecution of critical students, and so on. Furthermore, CLACSO highlighted its ongoing work in collaboration with the Coalition for Academic Freedom in the Americas (CLAA/CAFA), promoting research and critical thinking on academic freedom from an intersectional perspective.

Both panels included the participation of sociology associations from Europe, Asia and Africa and were coordinated by Ana Rivoir (UDELAR/ISA) and Geoffrey Pleyers (President of ISA), respectively.
