This space is intended to disseminate and articulate new proposals for Working Groups within the framework of the XI Call for Proposals for CLACSO Working Groups 2026-2028.See call].
Summary: Deinstitutionalization is an ethical, legal, and public policy imperative in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC). Residential care models have historically been used for children, people with disabilities, the elderly, and those with mental health conditions, perpetuating inequalities, poverty, and structural exclusion through paternalistic approaches. Transformation requires analyses that prioritize LAC, where institutionalization is high and community-based services are insufficient. The approach must ensure community support, progressive autonomy, and intersectoral co-responsibility.
Sexual activism and citizenship: interdisciplinary dialogues
Proposed by: Raul Olmedo
Summary: This Working Group seeks to build a horizontal space where discussions and actions can be raised regarding the visibility of LGBTIQA+ people in the region, especially regarding their rights and mobilizations as a result of democratic processes and in the face of the rise of conservative projects that put at risk the human rights framework that has been achieved in the last 50 years.
