Arts and politics

Our CLACSO Arts and Politics Working Group starts from thinking about the different dimensions of artistic languages ​​and their ways of signifying, in a communicative, sensitive and social way, the ways of narrating the world.

Based on this, the objectives of our GT project the exploration of artistic processes, taking into account their different scales of production, circulation and consumption, focusing on the articulations between the global and the local in order to critically analyze the relationships between the arts and politics as languages ​​of representation linked in social imaginaries.

We also consider as priority objectives the understanding of the digital revolution as a synthesis of the historical process in the development of aesthetic languages, and the analysis and debate on the political nature of art in Latin America based on the exchange and joint socialization of research methods of the members of the GT, among others.

From different fields of knowledge we seek to update the production of knowledge, research and debates around the art and contemporary aesthetic representations of Latin America with a look at the political nature of art in the region through the exchange and joint socialization of research methods of the members of the GT.

In line with the 2016-2019 and 2019-2022 editions of the GT, we will continue to re-problematize the different layers of the cultural process resulting from the original wealth of each region and the incorporation of European and African popular cultures through immigration processes.
