XXI ISA World Congress of Sociology: Call for Abstracts

The International Sociological Association (ISA) invites submissions of abstracts for the XXI World Congress of Sociology , to be held from July 4 to 10, 2027 in Gwangju, South Korea , under the theme “Global Sociology in Turbulent Times”.
Within the framework of the Congress, several sessions organized by ISA Research Committees (RCs) are taking place, addressing topics related to the transformations of global society, social inequalities, mobility, social indicators, work, and globalization processes. These sessions include:
- After Globalization? The Economic, Political, and Social Transformation of World Society – RC02 Economy and Society.
- Reconfiguring Social Inequalities: Comparative Perspectives from the Global North and South – RC28 Social Stratification.
- Social Mobility in Late-Industrializing Societies – RC28 Social Stratification.
- Multidimensional Inequality in World Society: Comparative Perspectives from the Global South and North – RC55 Social Indicators.
- Rethinking Inequality Measurement: Integrative and Multidimensional Indicators for Global Comparison – RC55 Social Indicators.
Proposals must be submitted in English , with abstracts of no more than 300 words , including title, authors' names and affiliations, contact information, and a clear description of the research methods, data sources, and analytical tools. Original contributions are sought.
Travel grants
The World Society Foundation (WSF) offers a limited number of travel grants to support participation in the Congress, particularly for researchers from the Global South , as well as doctoral and postdoctoral students. The grants may cover all or part of the travel and accommodation expenses for one author per accepted paper, according to the terms and conditions outlined in the call for applications.
To access this support, it is necessary to be an ISA member at the time of registration for the Congress and to present the work in person at the corresponding session.
