Call for Papers. XX International Conference on Caribbean Studies
Until the 2 of October of 2026
under the motto “The Caribbean at a crossroads: cohesion vs. fragmentation in a challenging global and regional scenario”, the Chair of Caribbean Studies “Norman Girvan” from the University of Havana and the CLACSO Working Group “Crisis, responses and alternatives in the Greater Caribbean” They summon the XX International Conference on Caribbean Studies, which will take place in Havana from December 9 to 11, 2026.
The conference proposes to analyze the Caribbean as a region facing profound structural and situational challenges, marked by tensions between processes of regional cohesion and integration and the dynamics of political, economic, and geostrategic fragmentation. In a global context characterized by intensifying rivalries between powers, aggressive foreign policies, and a volatile international landscape, the meeting seeks to reflect on the implications of these processes for strategic autonomy, development, and regional governance.
Among its objectives are the analysis of geopolitical competition and its impact on national and regional agendas; the assessment of the challenges facing Caribbean integration efforts; and the identification of strategies to strengthen the region's resilience to global risks such as climate change and other development vulnerabilities. The conference also promotes interdisciplinary academic exchange and the collaborative development of proposals that will help reposition the Caribbean on the regional and international stage.
The call is open to proposals for full panels and individual presentationsin Spanish or English.
Deadline for submitting proposals: 2th October 2026
