El CLACSO Working Group on Social Security and Pension Systems, with the support of Doctoral and Master's Program in Political Economy of the Pontifical Catholic University of São Paulo (PUC-SP) and the Seminar on Development Theory of the Institute of Economic Research of the UNAM (IIEc-UNAM), organizes the seminar "The challenges facing pension systems in the face of demographic and labor market changes".
This series proposes to analyze the challenges facing public pension systems in light of two major transformations: population aging and changes in the labor market resulting from the expansion of artificial intelligence, Industry 4.0, the Internet of Things, the growth of precarious work, the platform economy, and the persistence of informal employment. These processes affect both the spending needs and the sources of financing for social protection systems, making it necessary to discuss alternatives to guarantee their sustainability and responsiveness to new social risks.
