Interdisciplinary Seminar on Sexual Citizenships in Latin America and the Caribbean (SICISAL). Panel 6: Queering the Gaze: New Ways of Seeing and Imagining Existence

December 9 – 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm Argentina

📅 Wednesday, December 9 | Virtual format
🕘 10 a.m. (Mexico City), 13 p.m. (Buenos Aires), 18 p.m. (Madrid)

This working group brings together research that, from queer, feminist, and posthumanist epistemologies, examines the political and epistemological power of dissident imaginations. Through artistic praxis, autoethnography, and situated reflection, the presentations interrogate the hegemonic structures that organize experience, bodies, and otherness. In this sense, the works gathered propose to "queerify" the gaze (Ortiz, 2025), that is, to destabilize the normative regimes of perception and intelligibility in order to explore other ways of seeing, imagining, and inhabiting existence. Collectively, they posit imagination as a critical practice capable of enacting other modes of relating and producing knowledge.
