Throughout Latin America, we commemorate the Mexican researcher, chronicler, and activist Rossana Reguillo Cruz. As is well known, Rossana was born in Guadalajara on September 28, 1955, and passed away on April 24, leaving behind a legacy that has become an integral part of cultural thought in the Global South. In light of her untimely passing, this international seminar, organized by the Faculty of Journalism and Social Communication of the National University of La Plata through the Aníbal Ford Institute of Communication Studies in Media, Culture, and Power (INESCO) and the Latin American Council of Social Sciences (CLACSO), celebrates her life and work as inseparable practices and theory. From older to younger generations—as Professor Néstor García Canclini observed—we admire her research, which redefined cultural and communication studies, drawing simultaneously from anthropology, sociology, and political science.
