Women's participation and contributions in social and community life

January 27 - 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM +0 UTC

La Flora Tristan Free Chair It is coordinated by the Rómulo Gallegos Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies and is an integral part of the Research Coordination, through the Unit: Bodies in Motion: Gestures and Scenic, Artistic, and Cultural Practices. It is conceived as an academic space dedicated to reflection, promotion, and dissemination of thought and debates on gender equality, women's movements, and their relationship to social transformation and justice. A monthly session is held. It operates as a flexible platform for intellectual discourse, research, and community action surrounding the participation and impact of women's movements. It is coordinated by Celarg researcher Dr. Alba Carosio. For Venezuela, Flora Tristán holds particular significance due to her connection with the figure of Bolívar: stories of a possible kinship are woven around her, given the affection that united the Liberator with her mother, Therese Laisnay. What is certain is that there is, without a doubt, a shared path toward emancipation between them. Today it is clear that transformative feminist ideals and the women's movement are essential for building new, better, and more just societies. This Flora Tristán Chair aspires to be an open and fertile ground, contributing reflections and insights to this indispensable endeavor. Guests:
  • Virginia Aguirre. Full Professor at UNESR. PhD in Development Studies (CENDES-UCV), MSc in Public Health (UCV), Dentist (UCV), Postgraduate Professor and Researcher at UNESR. Research areas: health technology and feminisms. Health activist and feminist.
