Bodies as territories of emancipation. Flora Tristán Open Chair

Hybrid Event

February 24 4:00 PM 6:00 PM CMT

As it does every month, the Flora Tristán Open Chair is hosting a discussion that brings together the feminist perspectives of our region. This time, we will come together to contribute to the understanding and knowledge of the body as a field of action, relationship, and fulfillment.

The body and embodiment are at the heart of the hegemonic colonial project and, of course, of the counter-hegemonic resistance expressed in any gesture or movement that denotes the potential for emancipation. Given their political dimension, they are contested territories. Situated in Latin America, this perspective challenges the Western-centric idea of the body, aiming to contribute to a political dimension of embodiment, not as a unity or "unitary essence," but rather through the types of relationships that compose it—that is, through the dynamics of the corporeal and extra-corporeal relationships that constitute it.

GENDERS AND IDENTITIES is a study and research group, at Celarg, of those Latin American scenic, artistic and cultural practices expressed from the diversity of ethnic and cultural identities, and the diversity of gender identities, and the multiplicity of their derivations.
