The course will consist of seven meetings with contemporary women writers whose works address issues that affect us as a class. We will talk with Flor Monfort, Vilma Ibarra, Lucia Solla Sobral, Magda Tagtachian, Corina Busquiazzo, Marina Frankel, and Nora Mazziotti about their work and the intersection of their books, feminism, and politics. Flor Monfort is the author of "Las Rusas" (The Russian Women), a book of short stories that explores women's triple workload, violence, and desires. Vilma Ibarra has just debuted as a writer after a long career in politics and law, and presents her crime novel "La última Mamushka" (The Last Mamushka), which, set in Buenos Aires in the 90s, has all the elements of a noir thriller and features a fearless journalist as its protagonist. Lucía Solla Sobral, with her first novel, "Comerás flores" (You Will Eat Flowers), examines the threads of domestic violence and the importance of community networks for escaping it. Magda Tagtachian, in her fifth novel, "The Promise," returning to her Armenian roots, narrates a love story intertwined with the pain of genocide. Corina Busquiazzo, with "Rosaceleste," and Marina Frankel, with "Among Ladies," feature older women as protagonists who resist a neoliberal society and seek a collective solution. Finally, Nora Mazziotti joins the fray with "The Cocoliches," a work that portrays the intimate, tortuous, and hilarious side of a nation in the making through the story of three young women recently arrived from Italy. The aim of this new initiative is to create a space for exchange and dialogue with feminist writers in order to analyze and debate current political issues through their works.
