From the Latin American Network of Researchers and Social Organizations—a CLACSO member network that promotes collaboration and collective action by professors and researchers from public and intercultural universities, as well as social, territorial, and labor organizations—we have been developing virtual meetings called “Latin American Dialogues,” focused on situated analysis and exchange. Today, convinced of the urgent need to create spaces for encounter and critical reflection in the face of the region's current situation, we are resuming this initiative, which began during the pandemic (2020). This time, the focus is on Cuba, given the crossroads the island faces today. After the military aggression against Venezuela (the subject of our last dialogue), we are interested in understanding how its people are experiencing the US's pursuit of a complete collapse of the economy and all aspects of social life. This situation is further exacerbated by Donald Trump's explicit commitment to imminent “regime change.” Whether this implosion stems from internal crippling economic strangulation, direct external interference, or a combination of both, discussing Cuba today from a critical and anti-imperialist perspective is crucial for understanding the complex, multidimensional crisis (economic, energy, cultural, and social) the island is experiencing. This is urgent, and it is precisely what we are proposing from our platform.
