The call for applications to participate in the XII Colloquium on the historical formation of the northern border of Mexico and other borders in Latin America and the Caribbean, an academic space that brings together researchers and students interested in the historical and contemporary study of borders in the region.

The colloquium aims to analyze the processes of border formation from pre-Hispanic and colonial times to the present, considering the territorial, population, political, and economic dynamics that have shaped these spaces. It also seeks to promote debate surrounding borders as arenas of dispute, circulation, and transformation within the context of global capitalism.

The following thematic areas stand out:

  • The configuration of liminal spaces in pre-Iberian times
  • Historical population dynamics at different borders
  • Expansion and consolidation of borders (16th to 19th centuries)
  • Indigenous struggles and territorial transformations
  • Contemporary borders and their relationship with global capitalism
