Every dawn the struggle is renewed

Every dawn the struggle is renewed

A year ago, on May 30, 2024, Nora Cortiñas, one of the leading figures of Mothers of Plaza de Mayo Founding Line of Argentina, passed away.

Norita, as everyone called her, participated in various activities with CLACSO, including writing a heartfelt text for the poster “ Right to Memory and Resistance .” At the beginning of her remarks, she stated: “We have been walking, searching, and raising the banners of the 30.000 for over 45 years. We walk more slowly, it is true; many mothers and grandmothers are no longer with us, but we are propelled by the strength of the new generations. Memory does not fade, truth is our daily cry, and justice is a debt that must be paid. The 40th anniversary of the return to democracy represents a true achievement that we must all protect. Today, as yesterday, the struggle is renewed with each dawn, without ever giving up.”

Also, in March 2023, at the Memory and Human Rights Space of the former ESMA, she participated in the meeting organized by the Latin American Council of Social Sciences “ 40 years after the return of democracy in Argentina: The forced disappearance of persons in Latin America and the defense of Human Rights, within the framework of current strategies of domination ”, together with Karina Batthyány , Executive Director of CLACSO, Luz Marina Monzón , Former Director of the Search Unit for Disappeared Persons in Colombia, Constanza Ramírez Molano , President of the Other Voices Association of Colombia, with the coordination of Ana María Careaga of the Space for Memory Institute, which was sponsored by the International Center for the Promotion of Human Rights of UNESCO.
