Juan Pablo Abratte (1969-2019)

On Sunday, September 29, our dear colleague and great friend Juan Pablo Abratte passed away. He served as Dean of the Faculty of Philosophy and Humanities at the National University of Córdoba, where he had earned his degree in Education.
He completed his doctoral studies at FLACSO, where he produced an important critical study on the educational reforms in Cordoba within the context of Argentina's recent history.
His commitment to public education was evident both in his History of Argentine Education classes and in his daily commitment to the management of the Public University, which he loved and defended so much.
Juan Pablo leaves behind a legacy of hard work, dedication, activism, and commitment to the education of the most vulnerable. His hospitality, his warm Cordoban accent, and his unwavering commitment to defending and promoting public and community-based education will now be the place we return to whenever we remember him.
CLACSO extends its condolences to the family in this moment of grief and is committed to redoubling its efforts to continue working alongside the academic community of the UNC, of which Juan Pablo was one of its main leaders.
Abratte had participated, on July 12 of this year, in the “Latin American Meeting against Neoliberalism, for a Democratic and Popular University” at the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters of the UBA, to continue deepening the debates on the occasion of the Centenary of the University Reform of '18, where he was interviewed for CLACSO TV.
