XXXIII Latin American Congress of Sociology
From August 14 to 19, 2022, in Mexico City, Guadalajara, San Luis Potosí and Mérida, the XXXIII Latin American Congress of Sociology organized by the Latin American Sociological Association (WINGS) under the name: “The (re)construction of the social in times of pandemics and post-pandemics. Critical contributions from Latin American and Caribbean social sciences”, with significant participation from Latin American Council of Social Sciences.
The central theme of the Congress is the crisis caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, which has placed us in a paradoxical and polarizing scenario. In this context, sociology has served as input and has guided the perceptions and decision-making of governments, civil organizations, and social movements. The debate on reality has broadened, and concepts such as civilizational crisis, ecosocial collapse, intersectionality, neoliberalism, racism, domestic violence, public health, the State, economic model, and development programs, among others, have been strengthened.
The Congress included the following activities: Keynote Lectures – Master Dialogues – Panels – Tributes – Virtual Spaces for Dialogue and Coexistence/Coffee Rooms – Holding of the General Assembly – Cultural Activities – Book Fairs at Each Congress Venue – Presentation of Audiovisual Messages from Personalities in the Social Sciences and the ALAS Environment.

-Monday, August 15: The decoloniality of power in Latin America. Civilizational Crisis and New Horizon of Historical Meaning. Together with Jaime Rodolfo Rios Burga, Nora Garita, Alberto Bialakowsky, Paulo Henrique Martins and Monica Bruckmann.
-Tuesday, August 16: Master Panel: Challenges and opportunities for education and social sciences in the post-pandemic era. With Milton Vidal and Luciano Concheiro.
Tuesday August 16Forum: The sociologist's profession in Uruguay in times of change. Local experiences and dialogues with Latin American sociology, Uruguayan College of Sociologists, Biblios Publishing House, Buenos Aires. Along with Eduardo Bottinelli, Denis Merklen, Marcos Supervielle, Rosario Aguirre, Verónica Filardo, Dinorah Motta, Juan Romero, Juan Pedro Blois, Carmen Camacho, Angélica Cuellar, Maite Descouvieres, Fernando Filgueira, Jacob Carlos Lima, Francisco Pucci, Alberto Riella, Eduardo Arroyo, Ana Silvia Monzón and Miguel Serna.
-Wednesday, August 17: Master Panel: Feminisms, Gender and Pandemics. With Sylvia Marcos and Marisa Belausteguigoitia.
-Friday, August 19 – Closing of the ALAS Congress
At the closing of the ALAS Congress, a well-deserved, moving and necessary tribute to Don Pablo González Casanova, who was the recipient of the CLACSO Latin American and Caribbean Social Sciences Award.
Several members and coordinators of CLACSO Working Groups participated, meeting with members of the Executive Secretariat and the Board of Directors to discuss, among other topics, the new Call for Working Groups 2023-2025 and the challenges and expectations for the coming years.
