CLACSO Working Group on Afro-descendants and counter-hegemonic proposals
The course “Afro Women in Latin America and the Caribbean: Brazil, Colombia, and Cuba,” organized by the Nelson Mandela Chair at the Center for Psychological and Sociological Research (CIPS), served as a platform for us, Afro women, to unite and break down the barriers of invisibility and the distortion of who we are and why. Thus, grounded in Maroon pedagogies, we marched together against the coloniality of power, knowledge, and gender, to un/re/learn Black feminisms.
It is a text capable of bringing together authors from all over the country and from different generations. Most are black women, but it is not limited to that, which accounts for that imbrication that distinguishes the cultural, ethnographic, sociological and historical phenomenon that Nicolás Guillén coined as “Cuban color”2 (Guillén, 1931).
