VIII International Workshop on Culture and Inequalities. Theoretical and Methodological Aspects for the Study of Social Inequalities “Rodrigo Espina in memoriam”

December 12 and 13, 2023 | Hybrid format
Havana Cuba | ICIC Juan Marinello
Platform for Social Dialogue: Inequalities and Poverty in Latin America and the Caribbean

Objective

To exchange ideas on the topic of inequalities in their diverse dimensions: generational, territorial, skin color, demographic, economic, in the sphere of technologies, law and culture; with emphasis on theoretical and methodological issues.

Since 2015, the Cuban Institute of Cultural Research (ICIC) Juan Marinello has hosted the event, which aims to delve deeper into the links between culture and inequalities, focusing on the connotation of the cultural perspective in the study of inequalities – and their possible transformation – based on reflexivity as a fundamental activity in the research process and highlighting transdisciplinary and inter-institutional approaches in analytical perspectives.

This edition pays tribute to its creator and member of the coordinating team, Rodrigo Espina, who made a strong commitment and effort in each meeting held.

The scientific program comprises a conference, three panels, and seven thematic roundtables, featuring prestigious researchers from various academic institutions and universities across Latin America and the Caribbean, as well as other nations worldwide. Through research, the program establishes bridges of exchange to explore the complexities of this scourge and raise awareness, fostering a corresponding social and political commitment.
