CLACSO Working Group on International Health and Health Sovereignty

Diseases are manifestations that transcend biology and the individual, reflecting sociocultural aspects and implications. HIV/AIDS infection is a paradigmatic case of the social location of disease and how it challenges us not only individually but also on a collective scale, as members of groups, societies, and states founded on specific frameworks of norms and values. It is precisely within this collective dimension that the discussion proposed in this book is situated, presenting a critical and interdisciplinary theoretical contribution, from the social sciences, on the transformations caused by globalization and neoliberal policies, and their particular impact on issues of gender, migration, and HIV infection in countries and population groups most vulnerable to the epidemic.
