University of Action for Education and Culture – Dominican Republic

APEC University is the first institution of Acción Pro Educación y Cultura (APEC), an entity constituted as the APEC Group, which brings together other sister institutions.
The University was established in 1964 when businessmen, merchants, professionals and churchmen decided to create a non-profit entity to promote higher education in the Dominican Republic.
It was founded as the Institute of Higher Studies (IES), and in September 1965, it created its first Faculty with the Schools of Business Administration, Accounting and Spanish and Bilingual Executive Secretarial Studies.
In 1968, by Decree No. 2985, the Executive Branch granted it the benefit of legal personality to grant higher academic degrees, with which the Institution achieves the category of University.
On August 11, 1983, the APEC Board of Directors, through Resolution No. 3, adopted a new symbol for the Institution and its identification as APEC University, Unapec. Subsequently, the Executive Branch authorized this name change through Decree No. 2710, dated January 29, 1985.

To have an institutional positioning with prestige and first-rate quality, as a university that trains competent and ethical human talent in the areas of business, technology, services, arts and communication, in order to position itself with leadership and competitiveness at the national and international level.
Mission
Unapec's mission is to train critical, ethical, creative, and entrepreneurial leaders with a global vision, offering a comprehensive academic program with an emphasis on business, science, technology, humanities, services, arts, and communication; focusing on innovation and entrepreneurship by integrating teaching, research, and outreach, in order to contribute to the development of Dominican society.
Departmental Mission
The Department of Social Sciences at APEC University, Dominican Republic, has the mission of guaranteeing the educational offering in social sciences, research methodologies and degree seminars for all students of this institution, contributing to pedagogical development as well as research and extension in the field of social sciences, in a perspective of inter-university cooperation and development of the social sciences in the country.
