Joining forces in defense of the social sciences
In the city of Lima, Peru, on December 5, an Agreement was signed between the Latin American Sociological Association (ALAS), the Latin American Council of Social Sciences (CLACSO) and the International Sociological Association (ISA), which seeks to strengthen ties of collaboration and exchanges, recognizing the importance of contributions to international social sciences from knowledge and expertise from Latin America and the Caribbean.

The three organizations, which participated in the XXXII ALAS Congress 2019, commit to:
-Coordinate agendas for conferences and events.
-Organize joint panels at their respective congresses.
-Promote joint work among its working groups and research committees.
-Make joint publications.
-Support the dissemination of calls for proposals, events and publications from other institutions.
-To promote joint reflection on the processes of scientific evaluation in the social sciences and humanities.
-To promote the participation of young social scientists in the activities and events of their institutions and their full integration into the Latin American, Caribbean and international social sciences and humanities.
The agreement was signed by Karina Batthyány, Executive Secretary of CLACSO, Ana Rivoir, President of ALAS, and Sari Hanafi, President of ISA.
