A revolution in our knowledge and practices: thinking from a gender perspective

The Institute for Economic and Social Development (IDES) is celebrating its 60th anniversary and, for the occasion, proposes to reflect on gender through a series of conversations on various topics, in an open and free talk format, allowing the sharing of knowledge, ideas and dreams.

Within this framework, on Tuesday, November 24, the panel “Gender and Care: Designing Care Policies: Principles, Tensions, and Challenges” took place, with the participation of Karina Batthyány, Executive Secretary of CLACSO, Full Professor at UDELAR, and Specialist in Gender and Care; Mercedes D’Alessandro, National Director of Economics, Equality, and Gender at the Ministry of Economy of Argentina; Lucía Cirmi Obon, National Director of Care Policies at the Ministry of Women, Gender, and Diversity; and Carolina Brandariz, National Director of Comprehensive Care at the Ministry of Social Development. The panel was coordinated by Eleonor Faur and moderated by Martin Oliva.

In its call for participation, IDES understands that, “amid a novel scenario regarding the definition of care policies in Argentina, this panel seeks to discuss the principles, processes, and articulations that favor the implementation of contextualized and sustainable policies. It also revisits critical perspectives on the development of care policies in other countries, in order to identify the obstacles and challenges in the redistribution of social and institutional responsibility for care, and explores the potential of work on masculinities and co-responsibility between genders.”
