Religious Ultradirection and Cultural Transformations in Latin America and the Caribbean

To affirm the diversities and plural identities of both Latin American and Caribbean people as a force for affirmation of rights in the face of the cultural transformations promoted by the ultra-religious movement in Latin America and the Caribbean, meet in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on September 10 and 11, for the seminar “Re-existences and diversity”, with the participation of Executive Director of CLACSO, Pablo Vommaro, terça-faira, day 11, (11:00 a.m.) at the round table: “The advances of ultra-religious leadership and the advancement of democracy in the Americas and EuropeOther panel participants: Elie Timothé Samuel Pucheral (UnB), Denia Arteaga García (Oxfam LAC Senior Project Officer) and Isabela Kalil (FESP).

Specific objectives

1. Mapping the cultural, identity and religious expressions of the Latin American and Caribbean people who resist the homogeneous narratives promoted by the religious extreme.

2. Analyze the impacts of religious ultra-direct policies and discourses on the cultural, social and political rights of diverse communities in the region.

3. Value and make visible experiences of re-existence, cultural practices and struggles for identity reconfirmation that affirm plurality as the foundation of rights in Latin America and the Caribbean.
