Work, production and service configurations, new labor subjects

El CLACSO Working Group on Work, Production and Service Configurations, and New Labor Subjects coordinated by Marcela Hernández, María Bridi and a team composed of Julia Acosta, Patrícia Felix, Pedro Amaury,

as well as an executive committee with representatives from several Latin American countries, it is one of the oldest Working Groups of CLACSO, founded in 1998.

We are more than 60 members represented by Mexico, Brazil, Uruguay, Chile, Colombia, Argentina, Venezuela, Peru, Bolivia, Nicaragua, and Costa Rica who have been actively working on consolidating the group, which maintains the tradition of various publications and particularly of Latin American Treatise on the Sociology of Work.

The Working Group has reaffirmed the centrality of work in contemporary times, as well as the transformations in work in different social contexts, maintaining the theme of trade unionism and labor relations as central.

In a context of political regime change with strong repercussions on labor relations, the focus is on the new and emerging realities of work situated in a capitalism that refuses to die, giving continuity to studies on economic development models in Latin America and the Caribbean; analysis on Manufacturing and Service Production Configurations; result of the outsourcing strategies of large corporations, coupled with the fourth industrial revolution.

Likewise, the preponderance of services in our continent, and the conditions of informality, low wages and precariousness that characterize the insertion of a large part of the population, have also marked the agenda.

The work plan is based on three guidelines: seminars, book publications, and dissemination of results to various stakeholders and institutions (unions, NGOs, etc.), as well as collaboration with professional associations, social and political organizations. These are the themes that define our working group.
