Third Assembly for the Agreement on Research Assessment Reform organized by the European University Association and Science Europe
On July 8, the European University Association and Science Europe organized the third assembly meeting of the research assessment reform initiative, with 180 participants in attendance.
The final version of the Agreement on the reform of research evaluation It was published on July 20, 2022. The Agreement includes the principles, commitments, and timeline for the reforms and establishes the principles for a Coalition of organizations willing to work together in developing and implementing the changes. A document has also been published with frequently asked questions Regarding the Agreement, the future coalition, and the next steps, we encourage you to share these documents within your institution and on your networks to raise awareness and promote informed decision-making.
The reform movement, supported by the Agreement and the Coalition, aims to be an inclusive and collaborative space for moving forward together towards a higher-quality, more efficient, and inclusive research system. It offers a platform for trial and experimentation, the development of new assessment criteria, methods, and tools, and for joint and critical reflection, the exchange of best practices, and mutual learning, while fully respecting the autonomy of organizations. With the support of the Coalition's work, organizations will decide on the steps to take to implement their commitments and the pace of their reform process, which may vary depending on the context (e.g., national, disciplinary, or assessment of individual researchers, research units and organizations, or research projects) and on each organization's strategic objectives and mission.
Although the Agreement has already been published, it will only be open for signature from the end of September. However, initial indications of intent to sign the Agreement are welcome and can be sent by mail to Lidia Borrell-DamianSecretary General of Science Europe, already Stephane BerghmansDirector of Research and Innovation at the European University Association. The first meeting of the Coalition's General Assembly, the "Constituent Assembly," is scheduled for late autumn 2022.
