Weaving narratives from and with viruses

Denisse Roca-Servat, coordinator and member of the editorial committee of “Weaving Narratives from and with Viruses,” explains that “this book of narratives, both written and visual, arose from the work done in the writing workshop: 'Narrating from and with the Virus,' within the framework of the course 'Political Ecology of Pandemics' in the Master's Program in Development at the Pontifical Bolivarian University in Medellín in April 2020, and from the series of virtual talks on 'Political Ecology of the Pandemic' held by the Working Group on Political Ecology(ies) of the South/Abya-Yala of the Latin American Council of Social Sciences during April and May. This workshop was inspired by philosopher Donna Haraway's call to use different forms of narrative, such as science fiction, fabulation, and speculative feminisms, as means to imagine other realities. In her own words, the invitation is rather 'to participate in a form of engaged fiction that seeks to encourage different ways of proposing near futures, possible futures and real, yet improbable, presents.”
