Solidarity with the people of Cuba in the face of a massive fire

On the night of Friday, August 5, a lightning bolt struck an oil storage tank in the western province of Matanzas during a thunderstorm, causing a large fire. Firefighters are working intensively to control the blaze, which has already spread to a second tank and threatens to continue spreading despite efforts to contain it.
There are injured and missing persons following the disaster, and the population near the affected area has been massively evacuated. Rescuers, doctors, healthcare workers, and other professionals, as well as the local population, are mobilized to support the victims and their families. The entire Cuban people are united in these difficult times, donating blood, medicine, and food, and contributing in every way possible given the gravity of the situation. Many countries and international organizations have already expressed their solidarity, are providing support, and are offering assistance.
Cuban social science centers are organizing various actions, material donations, psychological, human and professional care, and acknowledge the national and international solidarity support that Matanzas is receiving.
The CLACSO Steering Committee joins the statement of the Cuban member centers, expresses its solidarity with the people of Cuba in the face of this regrettable tragedy and reiterates that Cuba is not alone.
