Solidarity with the people of Bolivia

The CLACSO Member Centers – Colombia express our solidarity with the people of Bolivia. In this regard, we reject the coup d'état that led to the resignation and subsequent exile of President Evo Morales and Vice President Álvaro García Linera, who were due to complete their constitutional term in January 2020.

We denounce the expressions and acts of violence that have escalated in recent weeks and that have led to the violation of the Human Rights of a diversity of social and popular leaders and political leaders and have claimed the lives of some of them.

We call for respect for and the restoration of democratic institutions. We value and celebrate the initiatives of the people and parliamentary majorities aimed at this goal. We reject the intervention of the military and police forces in civic political processes, as well as that of foreign actors.

We also express our condemnation of the discriminatory, racist, and colonial acts that have occurred in these circumstances. The constitutional recognition of the Plurinational State of Bolivia is the triumph of the legitimate and historic struggle of the Indigenous peoples of Our America. The Wiphala expresses the cultural and ethnic diversity that has been denied for centuries.
