About the date of the Unisinos Post-Graduation Programs

About the date of the Unisinos Post-Graduation Programs

Public Note from the Steering Committee – Brazil CLACSO

With concern and apprehension, the Steering Committee – Brazil, of the Latin American Council of Social Sciences (CLACSO), receives the news of the mass date of post-graduation programs stricto sensu from different areas of knowledge, among them, the area of Humanities, announced by the Universidade do Vale do Rio Sinos – Unisinos.

It is from national knowledge to the scientific solidity of Unisinos, notably its post-graduation programs, some with more than 30 years of existence, which have a tradition in the training of researchers and with a quality rebuilt by the Coordenação de Perfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior (CAPES).

At a time when CLACSO promotes, in the context of the Latin American Forum on Scientific Avaliation (FOLEC), the regional dialogue on the policies and practices of scientific evaluation of our universities, in a horizon of strengthening our scientific and intellectual production, with ethical and social commitment, it is imperative to express our repudiation of this unilateral decision, which It will cause only a direct impact for teachers, students, officials, researchers linked to the affected PPGs. This discontinuation affects the entire production of knowledge developed in Brazil, opening precedents for the dating of other Programs, based on the allegation of reduction of public resources or financial restructuring of Higher Education Institutions.

It is essential to reaffirm, together with the scientific community and society, to defend the role of the University in the production of knowledge and its social commitment, at the same time that we call on the scientific community that composes this Council to maintain the fight for the valorization of science, or reconhecimento of the social function of universities and against the attenuation of Job insecurity in the field of teaching and scientific production.

We register our solidarity with the academic community and officials of two post-graduation programs affected by the decision of Unisinos.
