Regarding the illegal expulsions of migrants to Mexico

On March 20, 2020, the administration of then-President Donald Trump, citing the COVID-19 pandemic as the reason for the immediate deportation to Mexico of undocumented migrants apprehended by the U.S. Border Patrol. Since then, migrants from Mexico and other parts of Latin America and the Caribbean have been returned to Mexico after a swift process, without information and without the opportunity to request asylum in the United States. In other parts of the world, these deportations are known as "hot returns." In the United States, they are called "Title 42 removals," referring to the U.S. Health Care Act. Thus, a health argument is used to justify a punitive immigration policy that circumvents governments' commitments to the human rights of migrants.
