On the murder of social leaders amid the pandemic in Colombia

Within the framework of the course organized by the Department of Political Science of the National University of Colombia: “Post-Covid Era or a New Normal. An Analysis from Political Science,” a panel was convened on Friday, September 4, to address the problem of the assassination of social leaders amid the pandemic in the South American country.

In the presentation, Colombian research analyst Jenny Marcela Moreno Socha explained that “after announcing the exceptional measures imposed in Decree 417 of 2020, which declared a state of economic, social, and ecological emergency throughout the national territory and mandated the isolation of the population due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the assassination of social leaders in the country has not stopped; on the contrary, with all the focus on addressing the health emergency, attacks against the social movement risk becoming invisible and further increasing levels of impunity for these acts.”
