Pension systems with a gender focus
Within the framework of Social Security Week 2025: “The Impact of Artificial Intelligence on Social Security”, organized on April 23, 24, 25, 29 and 30 by the Inter-American Conference on Social Security (CISS), the Executive Director of CLACSO, Karina Batthyány, participated on Friday, April 25th in the presentation of the book:Pension systems with a gender focus”, co-published by the two institutions.
The meeting was moderated by Jessica Rubí Rodríguez Balderas, Executive Director of Projects and Research at CISS, the general presentation of Lourdes Jiménez Brito y Carlos Contreras Cruz, the presence on behalf of the team representing the call for academic research of Giancarlo Roach Rivas of the Latin American Faculty of Social Sciences, of Javiera Pastén Palominos from the Ministry of Labor and Social Security of Chile on behalf of the team representing the call for research from social security institutions, and with comments on the work by Isalia Nava, Researcher at the Institute of Economic Research of the UNAM.
The Inter-American Conference on Social Security (CISS) brings together specialists, institutions, organizations, and agencies working in social security and protection across the Americas for five days of activities. This meeting, aligned with the Guatemala Declaration for a Culture of Social Security in the Americas (2009) and ILO Recommendation No. 202 on Social Protection Floors (2012), seeks to strengthen reflection and dialogue on the future of social security in the region. In a context of rapid technological transformation, the 2025 edition addresses a crucial issue: the impact of artificial intelligence on social security systems and their capacity to respond to the challenges of the 21st century.
To structure the discussion, the meeting is organized into five thematic axes, each guided by a trigger question to explore the role of AI in the development of public policies and social security strategies:
1. Decent and accessible housing
2. Financial sustainability of pension systems
3. Hard-to-reach populations and care systems
4. Universalization of social security and health
5. Technologies and innovation for social security.
Through keynote lectures, expert panel discussions, technical roundtables, and the presentation of specialized reports, innovative experiences in the region are analyzed, and strategies for integrating AI into social security in an equitable and sustainable manner are discussed.
