Information management systems in science and technology and research evaluation
Transformations in academic evaluation systems, within the context of a transition towards increasingly open science, highlight the need for infrastructures that support the circulation of knowledge as a public and common good. Both the UNESCO Open Science Recommendation, currently being adopted by its member states, and the documents on research evaluation in Latin America and the Caribbean prepared by the Latin American Forum on Scientific Evaluation (FOLEC) of CLACSO, and more recently the contributions made by various specialists at the II FOLEC Forum during the III CILAC, in the panel "National Scientific Information Systems and the Contribution of Institutional Repositories and CRIS to the Design of Evaluation Indicators," suggest that one of the most urgent areas of action is long-term investment in digital infrastructure.
In this context, CRIS (Current Research Information Systems) or RIM (Research Information Management) systems are recognized as fundamental infrastructures for the development of open science. The objective of this international workshop is to analyze and share lessons learned about different CRIS or RIM models and national experiences, such as the Norwegian case or the ongoing initiatives in Brazil and Peru. The aim is to elucidate their potential to highlight diverse forms of research production and new evaluation methods in the Latin American region, and to establish the initial guidelines and consensus that will allow progress toward a truly Latin American CRIS approach.
