Seminar on Intersections of Religion – Mexico

Abraham Hawley Suárez, Director

The Seminar on Intersections of Religion (SEMIR) is made up of a diverse group of young researchers studying religious phenomena. Our goal is to foster discussions and critical reflections on religious phenomena and their intersection with other dimensions of life in society, such as politics, economics, and science.

We conduct all our activities within a framework of respect and recognition of diversity. Therefore, we are open to including any type of comments, criticisms, suggestions, and positions in our forums, provided that such content is scientifically and argumentatively rigorous and does not infringe upon the rights and freedoms of others.

Why intersections of religion? In light of the present, prophecies pointing to an inevitable decline, privatization, or even disappearance of religions with the arrival of modernity are highly questionable. Except for what occurs in Western Europe and some academic circles, religions in most of the world enjoy remarkable vitality that allows them to intersect multiple public and private spheres. Therefore, at SEMIR, we are interested in exploring the nuances and complexities that accompany the realignment of religion in the modern world.
