Save democracy! Free elections in Brazil!
Members from Brazil of our CLACSO Working Group on Violence, Security Policies and Resistance They have denounced an ongoing institutional coup during the election hours, which end at 5 pm. The Bolsonaro government is massively using the Military Police and the Federal Highway Police to carry out stops of private and collective vehicles to prevent Lula voters from voting.
This action is taking place in the states of the Northeast region (where Lula has a large majority) - there the federal highway police are stopping private vehicles and buses on several highways - and in Rio de Janeiro, where the military police are preventing app vehicles (Uber) from advancing if the passenger has a Lula sticker or says they will vote for him.
We must stop this coup! We call on the Brazilian authorities and international representatives! Save democracy! Free elections in Brazil!
